Creative Research
Available for Preorder! "Pandemic Motherhood: Exploring the Covid-19 Pandemic through Engaged and Applied Arts"

Rachel Hirshorn-Johnston, MFA is an Associate Professor of Voice and Speech at Texas Tech University, a certified teacher of Fitzmaurice Voicework®, and an active member of Actors’ Equity (AEA), the Voice & Speech Trainers Association (VASTA), and the Pan-American Vocology Association (PAVA).

Rachel coaches regionally in professional theatre and with private clients (corporate, government) on dialect acquisition, modification, and presentation skills. As an actor and coach her work has been praised (New York Times, Washington Post, Huffington Post, among others) throughout the US and Europe in professional regional theatre.

Her research examines the intersection of performance methods with atypical population subsets, largely within STEAM collaborations. Her explorations in applied performance, including Submit 10 Baltimore (examining audience building and interactive storytelling in under-supported urban areas) and Remember This (examining audience stigma towards dementia-related diseases) are supported by the National Endowment for the Arts.
